Katy has been working with the HIV community since 2007, and started by volunteering at her local ASO with needle exchange, conducting outreach, providing HIV education, and hosting weekly dinners for those living with HIV. She attributes her passion and connection to the HIV community to her Uncle, who passed away from AIDS related complications in the early 90’s. As Katy learned more about her Uncle’s experience and the communities affected by HIV, she became motivated to complete her BA in Family and Human Services. She has a strong desire to use her education and experience to provide support to people living with HIV.
Moving to Portland provided a new home and an opportunity to work in several capacities within the HIV Community. In 2014, Katy was named one of the POZ 100, celebrating people under 30 who are taking a stand against HIV. She currently serves on the Ryan White Planning Council as Membership Co-Chair and has provided workforce development support to people living with HIV.
In her current role at Quest, Katy is the HIV Services program Coordinator. In addition to facilitating Women of Wisdom or our WOW Program, a psycho-social support program for women living with HIV, Katy also oversees the HIV Services Behavioral Health Peer Support Program. As someone with their own lived experience of mental illness, she is excited to work with a community that takes a holistic approach to wellness, as Quest does.
Outside of work, Katy enjoys cooking, dancing, yoga, and spending time with her pug, Grampa Jo Jo.
